The Wisconsin Farmstead of the Williraye Studio.
Williraye Studio is the combined talents of Jeff and Bobbe Punzel-Schuknecht.
Twenty-two years ago they met at the University of Wisconsin, married and formed an artistic partnership. From their Princeton, Wisconsin farmstead they create the art that reflects the rural life they live. Bobbe does the designs and finishing work, while Jeff translates her designs into three dimensional reality.
When artists live the life they portray, as the Punzel-Schuknechts do, a spark of that intimate knowledge is passed on to viewers of their work. In essence, each piece is a reflection of their lives. Through light hearted whimsy, Williraye Studio creations carry you to a place reminiscent of good old fashioned wholesomeness.
"We portray the rural scheme of things," says Bobbe. "We use old photos and do research into old tools and farm machinery. I love the color schemes the Amish in our area use in quilts, like the muted tones of green and mauve. The basic look of our figures is that they're primitive and slightly out of proportion, smaller-than-scale head and bigger feet—a mix of American and French folk-art-styles."
